The Saxons travelled to Petersfield for the County Cup Plate Semi Finals and produced one of their best perfomances of the year. Petersfield are an accomplished side, seeded 6th in the County against the Saxons 7th seed so it was always going to be close.
However the Saxons started brightly, with strong attacking rugby and dominant rucks and set pieces. ALthough they applied the pressure a final pass was spilled and Petersfield broke free to score first. The Saxons dug deep and got back in the game with a superb 'round the outside' try from centre Rory from a scrum on the half way line and the Saxons knew it was on.
After half time, No 8 Rob found some good lines and drove over for a try which was converted by Jamie Stephenson. Petersfield came back into the game with a strong finish from their No 8 drawing the scores to 12-10 to Gosport. This was then followed up by another try by Rob from a set piece and, as the Petersfield heads dropped a little, Rory finished a determined attack off to make certain of the victory.
This was a close and exciting game with end to end action, but it was the Saxons commitment to tackling and rucking that gave them the possession and time to play their attacking rugby. Every player played their part and they were impressive and looked good in possession, they played with structure and looked confident on the ball.
Well done Saxons, your hard work has paid off and glad you did it together.
