The CELTS ran out two teams at Petersfield Round Robin Tournament with rolling substitutes, many thanks to all the players and parents for your continued commitment.
This was a really useful session against teams from Petersfield, Havant and Alresford which was run as a mini tournament. Both teams played very well in all their pool games and only narrowly missed out on appearing in the Pool winners final, losing out on count back tries, missing out by only one try.
We are now seeing some superb tagging in a defensive display not seen on the training ground. It was also very satisfying to see some superb support play. There is still a tendency to try and beat everyone by fast running, when a pass out wide to boys in space would have brought a result. Something to work on over the next couple of weeks!
There were some tremendous individual tries scored, some along the whole length of the pitch, also some which involved really pleasing support play. Again we need to emphasis two hands on the ball to prevent the tempting hand-offs and to ensure that the try is scored by downward pressure over the line.
The Sportsmanship shown by the players who volunteered to support Alresford due to their shortfall in players shows the maturity of our young players and is to be congratulated. They happily and enthusiastically tagged their usual teammates to help a newly formed mini youth club.
The teams showed a very encouraging performance which bodes well for the future. Well done everyone.
Key lesson to be taken forward: Encouraging Team Play, next week’s training session will be based on this.
