The long trip to Petersfield RFC proved to be very fruitful for the Vikings squad. On the request of our hosts, not to load one side, two evenly matched teams were picked with the same mix of emerging and experienced players and it is testament to the strength of our current squad that both sides went undefeated in their respective pools and set up an all Vikings final. Unfortunately due to the amount of games played I am unable to give you a full match report for each game. Instead this weeks report will only consist of the results from each game and details of the individual player awards. Again because of the amount of effort the players put in and the high standard of rugby they delivered the Managers and Coaching Team decided to award individual trophies for both the A & B Teams. It was especially pleasing to see that both 'Player Of The Week' awards went to emerging players, both new to the club this season:
POOL 1
Game 1: Gosport A 15 - Petersfield B 10
Game 2: Gosport A 10 - Portsmouth 5
Game 3: Gosport A 30 - Havant 10
POOL 2
Game 1: Gosport B 10 - Petersfield A 10
Game 2: Gosport B 35 - Alresford 10
FINAL
Gosport A 10 - Gosport B 20
The scoreline of from the final doesn't reflect how evenly matched the two sides actually were, the game being tied 10 - 10 with only two minutes to play, when Gosport B ran in two tries almost unchallenged by the A's defence. The coaching support team for Gosport A (Bruce & Andy) put this down to the guys running out of steam having played an extra game in the pool stages, then playing their last pool game back to back with the final. Gary and I put it down to superior tactics by the Gosport B coaches.
Player Individual Awards
Gosport A
Tackle Of The Week - Jamie Ryan
Try Of The Week - Kacper
Player Of The - Luke
Gosport B
Tackle Of The Week - Jamie Palmer
Try Of The Week - Tom Robertson
Player Of The Week - Harry
Well done all, again to reiterate my earlier point, strength across the squad. Both Players Of The Week awards went to players who were, new to the team, club and sport this season. All players put in fantastic performances and the Managers and Coaches are all really excited about the prospects for the rest of the season and how far the players have come so far. But again none of this would be possible without the ongoing support of the players brilliant parents and relatives
