The Saxons revised rucking, ripping and protecting the ballin this session, all key skills in the season to come. we saw in the match that the referee will not call the tackle anymore and it is now a proper battle for the ball. When being tackled, players are able to pump and drive their way forwards, often breaking the tackle or making it to the try-line. When another player joins the maul, the referee will call 'Use it'. The attacker then has 5 seconds to offload the ball. The person receiving has two options, either pass or run himself.
Only one additional player from each side can join the maul. So, if you are arriving and there are already two of your team in the tackle, do not join, stand clear and get ready to either receive the ball or make the next tackle.
If the tackle has gone to ground, the first attacking player must clear-out the defender to secure the ball. The next player arriving acts as scrum half and must pass the ball out.
Again only two players per side are allowed to join the ruck, so if you arrive and there are two of your team already there, take up an attacking or defending position. You must also stay on your feet to compete for the ball.
you played well today but need to watch having too many people in the mauls and rucks - remember only 2 persons from each side.
Well done to Matthew C for some great finishing for a great team try and to Liam for some determined ripping, driving, running and try-scoring - you are player of the week.
Well done all and see you next week for training.
