Well done for Sunday at the Counties, we may not of had much success in our Pool matches, but that was as expected considering our opponents in the pool.
Sometimes things don’t go your way and mistakes can add up, with knock-ons, dropped balls, missed passes breaking down moves and stopping you getting into your stride. I think we lacked the aggression that I saw close up whilst refereeing some of the other teams, but I know you can turn it on. We should of could have scored two tries against Fordingbridge after you applied considerable pressure and you were holding Andover and making them look uncomfortable. I think if you had been fired up and things had gone your way, you could have turned them.
New Milton were a class side and were Cup Final runners up to Alton, but they did not roll you over and you were not playing particularly well. What they did well was attack with the ball in hand and then pass/offload to players in close support. They organised there attacking and defensive lines and they tackled and rucked hard. That is what we aim to do.
The Overton match was obviously much closer and we were much more in the game and should have sealed it early in the second half but we let Overton back in the game. What was pleasing was seeing players stepping up and wanting the ball, Callum, Ashley, Jake, but again some of our moves didn’t go according to plan because we have not practiced them enough; that is the next stage of the journey.
The result and position was not flattering, but I am comfortable the margins are close, we have work to do and everywhere I looked I saw Saxons playing together, laughing and having fun and that is what it is about. Thank you.
