Saxons Make Steady Progress

Hi Saxons,

Great to see you at Winchester yesterday, I arrived to see the second half of the Havant match and I was very impressed with your structure, movement of the ball, rucking and defence. I saw some lovely breaks, overlaps being made and support players taking advantage of the space. We have come along way and are now starting to get the basics right and the precision finishing will come.

Your first game was against Andover and after an almost inevitable Saxon slow start with only a few firing and doing all the tackling/rucking etc, we let Andover get away. That said, it was close, it was not a rout and you were in touch with one of the best teams in the County. Saxons 0 Andover 3

The Saxons awoke and the next three matches were good to watch as the team played as a whole and I definitely saw players Giving the ball something and then giving it. Your play flowed, you looked after the ball and made it available and the opportunities were made. The finishing will come, it is the basics and foundation that is most important now and you are getting that right now. We played Basingstoke 3 weeks ago and they beat us 4-1, so to go a try down at half time could have looked ominous for the Saxons, but no, you fought back and turned it around and finshed Saxons 2 Basingstoke 1. This is a very impressive win against a quality side and you shold be proud. It shows what you can do. New Milton were a srong team and again you remained in competition with it ending Saxons 0 New Milton 2. You were in competition with Havant and definitely 'won' the second half and nearly levelled the score but it ended 0-1, but you have definitely closed the gap with Havant. Well done to Team Captain Toby, I saw you leading from the front!

A good day in all once they realised they had to help each other and the work rate went up.
