So first outing for GFRFC Ravens 7's after a two week crash course in playing the 7 a-side game. Team took to the field for first game of tournament against host Basingstoke Blues and announced that they had come to play with an emphatic 4-1 victory in which they dominated. Reminiscent of the U13's tournament at the start of the season. Then they started well against Salisbury but luck didn't go their way on a couple of decisions and bounces of the ball and they went down 5-2. Then they faced their nemesis side - Andover who were on top form having played 2 other 7's tournaments in the preceding weeks. Heads dropped and all the coaching seemed to be forgotten. You can't not compete in 7's and the boys learnt a hard lesson losing 9-0. Refocused with a long break and a coaching session with Abi Chamberlain (England Women's 7's Captain). Back to the performance levels of game 1 with an 8-1 victory over Hungerford. Last game tired bodies and tired heads as they slipped their focus again and just couldn't get possession to turn around the 2-0 lead they gave Basingstoke Yellows, final score 2-1. A big effort by players new to the high energy short game and a lot learnt to take into next season. Very tired team tonight, including water boy Mark Hearn who worked just as hard off the pitch.
