Great mornings rugby on historic seafront.

Last game of the season, lesson learnt from last week - mixed teams not A & B!
Ravens dominated play and in the first half built a 15-5 lead with a brace of try's by William Hosell with crash balls and Harry Rabjohn adding to his tally for the season. Missed tackles and poor alignment of the backs allowed US Portsmouth to stay in the game and their tactical kicking, using the sea breeze, was far better than Ravens.
Second half saw some great interplay of backs and forwards as Ben Wheeler, Gregor House and Aaron Spiteri added to the score sheet. US Portsmouth never gave up with two try's of their own from well run attacks where ball was moved quickly to the wing and Ravens covering tackling was lacking.
Euan Archbold had a huge game and was cheered from the pitch when he was substituted; he demonstrated great strength in carrying the ball and determination in making telling tackles. Joe Wilkinson demonstrated how much his game has improved this season with tight play alongside the rucks and mauls to close down attacks and counter attack. Ed Bell had a positive game off the back of the scrum and Tom Archer counter attacked with strong running. Bailey Starkey tackled above his weight as he has done all season whilst Sam Rushent steady the scrum with a solid front row effort alongside Huw Bones. Harry Freeman showed how much his game has improved and Olly Webb got stuck in to distribute the ball to give the attack ball going forward. Finlay Daly was solid in defence and attack, whilst Tom Ellis added speed to the wide angled efforts.
Try of the day was probably Gregor Houses' where the ball moved from breakdown to backs and was driven up wide by Harry Rabjohn where it was recycled by strong forward play and distributed quickly by George Smith. Ben Wheeler drove it up to off load in the tackle to Gregor who broke the line by his well judged angle of running and beat the last defence by an increase of speed to beat the last man.
25 players took to field today for the Raven's and they can't all be listed but everyone played to the best of their ability today to make a comprehensive squad performance. A great close out to the season that a number of parents and the coaches closed out in style with a walk, via a couple of pubs, back to Gosport Park.
