Chilling high winds made conditions very difficult for both teams in this friendly at the Gosport Hugin, and credit must be given to the referee who kept the game moving.
The Heathens were first to adapt to the inclement weather and ran in two tries in quick succession showing good passing skills, to take a commanding lead. Once again, it was Tom Batley with his strength and surging runs who kept Gos in the game, inspiring his team mates - and it was Batley who scored just before the break, with Charlie Smith converting, to send Gos in at half time trailing 12-7.
In the second half Gosport resumed where they had left off in the first period and, playing with the wind, started to control the match. The forwards began to win the ball with ease and the backs dominated all the plays. Dom Philo had an excellent debut at full-back showing what an asset he will be for the club. Gos ran in five tries - two from Tom Rimmer and one each from Sam Yeardley, Craig Taylor and Lewis Evans - and the match finished with Gosport victorious by 34-12.
