Whilst the result went against Gosport & Fareham the object of the exercise was met and the team selection justified with a number of players taking their chance to impress.

Harry Pye made an impressive ‘all-round’ debut as did Kieran Corless on the wing. Dan Sparshott gave a fine performance in the middle of the park – particularly with his tackling. Owen Brown kept the team going forward with his runs at centre and Lewis Evans gave secure cover at full-back having been out of the game for a long time recovering from an injury.

Alton, however, after a spate of handling errors at the start of the game were the first to strike and three tries were scored in quick succession. Alton were skilful using the ball out wide and their backs were powerful and frequently broke the Gos gain-line.

Alton continued to stretch their lead well into the second half when Gos brought on a few replacements. This changed the flow of the game and two tries from Tom Rimmer and one from Dom Philo gave Gosport & Fareham some scoreline consolation.
