15 v 22, down to 14 and still kept a clean sheet ... result!

For the first 15 minutes Gosport and Fareham's Ravens (U15) fought up hill but were turned over too easily in the tackle. The game see sawed back a forth but Ravens seemed to be dominant. From a quickly taken penalty Ben Wheeler crashed over in the corner after being impeded by an off-side player. The Referee awarded a penalty try giving Ravens 7 point lead. The attrition continued and Bournemouth made large scale changes from there squad of 22. However after enterprising play to edge of the Bournemouth 22 Harry Rabjohn exploited the blindside and ran in to score under the posts and converted his own try. Ravens were dominant but Bournemouth were still in the game with their back row their strongest attacking force; but they never truly threatened Ravens line. Ravens were twice held up over the line. Half time came with Ravens leading 14-0.
Now down hill Ravens continued as they had in the first half and eventually Euan Archbald broke through to score but the conversion was missed. The Referee had given a number of warnings to Ravens for penalty offences and when a tackle slipped high Jonnie Lewis found himself in the bin. Bournemouth pressed the man advantage and came close to scoring but for a try saving tackle from Harry Freeman that put their big No.8 on his behind in touch before he could ground it in the corner. Ravens worked their way down field and from a lineout on the 22m Harry Rabjohn ran a crash ball and made the line dragging three Bournemouth players with him. 5 minutes later Euan Archbald took the final pass on a good forward combination of round the corners and broke through to run half the pitch to score; both these tries were converted.
A good team performance with a very solid front row performance from William Hosell. Some strong runs by Ben Wheeler and Ed Bell, big tackles by Finlay Daly. Good distribution by Olly Webb put Ravens on the front foot and wingers had several chances to let fly. The final score line didn't truly acknowledge the hard work put in by Bournemouth who dominate much of the breakdown and won several balls in the tackle contest.
Final score 33-0 to Gosport & Fareham
