Gosport overcame a spirited second half to secure a 14-5 victory over fierce rivals Havant Sharks.
After a few worries over the state of the pitches the match took place on pitch 3 and, due to a lack of posts at one end of the pitch, there were to be no penalty kick or drop goals.
A fired up side Gosport side got off to a great start and within 5 minutes were 7-0 up thanks to a try from Taylor Walker, converted by Joe Wales. Havant managed to bring the score back to 7-5 and a captain's try at around 20 minutes from Chris Wilson converted by Joe Wales saw the score at 14-5 where it was to remain for the rest of the game.
The remainder of the first half saw a lot of play taking place in the middle of the park with some big hits being put in by a very committed Gosport side. 12 first half penalties cost Gosport ground and the last few minutes of the first half were played on and around the Gosport try line. A solid, all out defence and a half-time whistle came to the rescue.
The second half saw a more disciplined Gosport (6 penalties) defending strongly from the start, Havant attacked the Gosport line on many occasions and a combination of great defence and errors from the Havant players meant that they came away with nothing on each attempt.
Towards the end of the game Havant heads could be seen to drop and Gosport continued to defend strongly. There were so many good performances today with some players in new positions too. Man of the match awards went to Elliot McMullen and Joe Warwick with many others in close contention.
Gosport now move to the final of the U16's Bowl competition(the next stage up from last year's competition.
