First Home Game Starts with a Win!

Gosport got their season off to a good start with a hard fought win over Tottonians on a typically blowy Gosport Park day. Last year Gosport lost this fixture narrowly by 17-19 so we knew we were in for a tough test.

The first third saw a period of attrition until the 14th minute when Jack S took a quick penalty from around 7 meters to cross the line (I'm sure by next weekend this distance is likely to have increased to at least the 22) conversion attempt by Tim 5-0 ! Totts scored at the end of the first period and missed their conversion 5-5.

The second third saw two changes to the line up and again a closely fought game broken in the 39th minute by a good combination of forwards and backs from which Seb ran in a try from around the 22 converted by Tim 12-5.

With a number of changes made throughout the third period of the game both Gosport and Totts came close to scoring on several occasions. Rob M crossed the line at around the 55th minute with a strong run through several players after the backs had moved the ball well along the line, conversion attempt by Tim 17-5.

Gosport deserved their win today and managed to build momentum over the course of the game from a rather flat start to an adrenaline filled conclusion.

There were several nominations for man of the match finally going to Jack S, donkey of the day went to Scratch, some would say harshly, for gentlemanly conduct.

This game has given the coaches food for thought and a positive headache for their selection process as a number of players put in strong performances both in and out of their usual positions.
