Wind and rain, wind and rain, wind and rain....won't it ever stop.....
Well, the rain stopped, just in time for kick off!, the wind however!
Gosport drew first blood with a well worked forwards drive and quick ball out to Jordan Beilig to score in the corner.....unfortunately this was the only time Gosport would get over the line.
The pitch was heavy underfoot and any kicking held up in the air...if not blown backward and sideways. Basingstoke capitalised on the inclement weather and slowed the game. Gosport worked hard to spoil but time and again were guilty of offsides and not staying on their feet at the breakdown...a yellow card ensued for persistent offending in the 5m and Basingstoke took their chance.
Half time came with Basingstoke 5-10 to the good.
The second half started as the first finished. Try as they may, with a Man of the Match performance from Jack Stillion leading, with hard running and tackling from Grant Hill, Will Larkin, Ethan Carpenter and Reece Walters, Gosport could not regain a foot hold.
Basingstoke struck again with a well drilled backs move and then repeated again shortly after to put the game beyond Gosports reach. Discipline at the breakdown was the key to the game and Basingstoke were better on the day.
Basingstoke were 5-25 to the good at the final whistle.
