The Saxons earned a valuable point as Gosport U7-U11 swept away the opposition to win the Overton Spring Cup.

The Saxons joined the other Gosport and Fareham mini-teams to attend the Overton Festival and compete for the Overton Spring Cup, awarded to the Club with the most points across the age groups.

The Saxons were pleased to see familiar teams from across the county, meeting teams from Tadley, Winchester, Fareham, Petersfield and Overton. All of the matches were close, with the Saxons in contention throughout and they managed to secure 2 wins but lost 3 games.

Tadley 2 Saxons 1
Saxons 4 Fareham Heathens 1
Saxons 3 Winchester 3
Overton 3 Saxons 1
Petersfield 5 Saxons 3

Pleasingly there were lots of Saxon try scorers, with Alfie, Matthew C, Jamie S. Ben B and Ben D scoring once, Ed H and Matthew T crossing the line twice and Olly Kirby romping away with 3 tries.

Success at U8 and U11 and runners up at U7 and U10, combined with the Saxons single point for 4th place carried Gosport over the line to win the Overton Spring Cup.

Well done Gosport; well done Saxons! We will return next year to defend the Cup!

Instructions

Overton RFC is a great club in a picturesque rural location in the Meon Valley. Saxons attended the Spring Cup last year and it was a friendly Tournament with many familiar teams competing. Saxons will be sending a squad of 13 players who did not play at Bognor to this tournament.

From Overton:

• Directions to our club can be found on our website at http://www.overtonrugby.com/directions.asp

• Car Parking will be £2 per car (including a programme) – extra progammes 50p. It will be helpful if you have some change ready to avoid delaying those cars behind you in the queue. Each program will contain the details of all the clubs involved, the way the games will be played, the pitch layouts and the catering prices.

• Car parking space is limited at Overton. Please encourage lift-sharing to help ease pressures on parking

• Watch Lane etiquette. Please respect our neighbours and drive slowly up the narrow lanes approaching the club. Please do NOT use their driveways as passing points. There will be a one-way system in operation on the way into and out of the car park – please observe this and follow signs, to help traffic flow.

• No Dogs! We are usually a dog-friendly club but the constraints of limited space and numbers of people mean it will not be practical to allow dogs on the day. Please inform all your members, to avoid any embarrassing situations on the day.
