The Saxons returned from the Christmas break with plenty of energy and enthusiasm today and were hosted by Totton for training and matches.
Totton were pleased to see us for the return fixture and hosted us well. There was a good standard of rugby played today with few handling errors despite the wet conditions, lots of running and passing and some good tackling for the first day back.
Remember to run with the ball in two hands, this allows you to be balanced when you run, offers opportunities to pass left and right and helps resist the temptation to hand-off. It also allows you to protect the ball in the tackle and retain control of the ball when touching down for a try. Remember to stay away from the touch line when attacking; step inside to wrong foot the defence and give your attack space.
There were some strong performances allround today. In the game I watched, Ben B showed real poise and balance in attack, Josh W attacked with pace, Callum T carried the ball really well. Louis K made some important tackles, Reece H made a dramatic break and Molly had two good runs. Aden J and Alfie C attacked and defended well and Ben D scored two lovely tries and made a try saving tackle. There were strong performances on the other pitch and Ray was pleased with the team. Try of the week went to Tom W for his strong and confident drive to the line and controlled finish, well done. Player of the week was Will H who played with a zing of determination, supported and tackled well, well done.
We are away at Chichester for a triangular with Portsmouth next week, the whole team can go and it will be 0945 for a 1000 start.
Thanks again to Miles and Neil at Totton and hope to see you at Tournaments through the season.
