The Saxons hosted Salisbury for the first time for a friendly training fixture. Both teams had similar sized squads and loked to gain match experience, practice moves and plays and try players in new positions. The teams were evenly matched, although Salisbury applied the early pressure and it took strong and determined tackling and defence to withstand the early onslaught. The first 20 minute session finished scoreless, and in the next period it was the Saxons who took their chances. JAmes Taylor chased a high kick and his determination and effort was rewarded when the Salisbury player failed to collect it and James took the rebound at pace and in space. He still had some work to do to finish the last 20 yards, but fitness and speed training paid off. The next restart saw JAck collect the high ball and then set off on a scintillating run 3/4the length of the pitch for a great score between the posts which was applauded by the Salisbury parents for such an excellent solo display.
But Salisbury were not done and piled the pressure back on and tested our clearing techniques and scored two tries. Liam Charlson had added the Saxons conversions which is what split the teams at half time.
