A cold, wet Sunday morning.
A pitch resembling newly ploughed field, already torn apart by a previous game.
A torrential downpour, creating its own mini rivers, turning the pitch into a mud bath.
A centre spot which grabbed the ball like a long lost friend, refusing to let it even consider bouncing.
Two teams, striding out in cinematic slow motion, facing the elements, preparing to do battle in these, the toughest of conditions.
And that's about it. After 5 minutes both teams were so caked in mud that, quite frankly, I'm surprised anyone knew who was who. A very Forwards dominated game from both sides...which was to be expected under the playing conditions. At some point Bognor scored 2 tries and a conversion. Gosport and Fareham scored one. A good scrum from the Forwards, a pass to Ben who slid like a tobogganing penguin 150m (OK, may have been 5m) across the line before converting his try.
All in all, a very good natured, wet, cold and muddy game. Our thoughts go out to the one person who apparently washes ALL the Bognor players kit.
