<cliché>...but, at the end of the day, rugby was the winner!</cliché>

The game kicked off on a dry morning with the elements slightly against and the home side attacking the clubhouse.
After 5 minutes the game came to light with a kick through from Benjamin Smith from half way with Robert Ellis collecting it after kicking it on and he scored under the sticks with the conversion landed by Benjamin Smith 7-0.
The game was very even for the next few minutes when after 13 minutes the home side turned the ball over and from close support play, collecting a slipped pass from from David Lewis, Robert Ellis again outstripped the defence to score under the sticks with a successful conversion under the sticks to make it 14-0.
Lychett went on the attack after the restart and Robert Ellis (in the thick of the action) who was this time on defence duty prevented a charge for the line. The ball eventually was cleared after strong home defence.
Back came Lychett again and a strong line break from their stand-off he scored to the left of the posts with the conversion going wide 14-5 (18 mins).
Back came the home side and guess who scored again. Yes it was Rob Ellis completing his hat-trick after 25 minutes following a break from David Lewis from the base of the scrum he smartly put Rob into the clear to score towards the left corner. The conversion was missed 19-5.
Quotes were flying from both his team and the coach “we do all the dirty work” and “no hair out of place”.
His Mum and Dad (not forgetting Arby) were proud watching on the sideline with many others and a couple of long term injuries (Joe O’Mahony, Max Williams and also Luka Mankiewicz).
The half was coming to a close with the home side attacking and they were held up over the line on a couple of occasions. In the final minutes of the half and close to the opponents line a well executed pick and go from the number eight, with the defence all over him, Alfie Grant touched down to give the home side a 26-5 lead (the conversion being successful).
The second half began and seven minutes in Ben Smith made a line break deep in his own 22 and showing excellent leg speed and pace he went all the way under the sticks. After composing himself he successfully converted 33-5.
After 12 minutes of the second half the home side showed some excellent support play and a move involving most of the forwards was finished off by Ollie Walker. The conversion was missed 38-5.
On 18 minutes the home side had another scrum close to the opponents line and a smart pick up from the scrum half (David Lewis) outstripped the defence to score in the right corner. Another conversion went wide 43-5.
More great support play by forwards and backs down the middle , after 25 minutes, the move was finally executed by Ben Smith with the conversion going wide 48-5.
In the dying minutes of a very entertaining game, played in great spirit by both sides, the home side completed the scoring when a move along the back line ended up with Harvey Field outstripping the defence to make the final score 53-5 (conversion unsuccessful).
This was a vast improvement from the home side's last home performance and should put them in good mindset for the away game at Farnborough next Sunday.

A big thank you to Lychett Minster and to the two players who agreed to swap sides for a half.
