Forwards power proves too much....

Portsmouth kindly offered to host us in a last minute friendly.

Bruce Carle (Head Coach), Gary Middleton (Backs) took the warm up, set piece and handling drills before retiring to the changing room for the teams’ final preparations.

Liam Cappers’ (13) rich vein of form continues, taking him only 4 minutes to go under the posts following a well worked set piece from the pack with a catch and drive from a lineout. Joe Collard (9) popping the ball to Liam, cutting the defence in half. Jordan Beilig (11) converting, 0-7.

Further forwards dominance by Gosport & Fareham told as 10minutes was greeted with a try from Jack Stillion (2)(c). This took the score to 0-12

Liam Capper added to his first try with another bursting run in support of powerful forwards play by Gosport, again Jordan Beilig converted, taking the score to 0-19 in the 20th minute.

A broken 10 minutes with the forwards having fun in the scrum was ended with a quick break from Joe Collard and Jack Haggard (12) moving onto a pass from Rob MacKinnon (10) for his first try. Jordan Beilig converted to take the score to 0-26.

Once again the power and pressure from the forwards was too much for a determined Portsmouth side and with Half Time seconds away Jack Stillion produced a trade mark run to score again. The half was completed with Jordan Beilig converting, 0-33

HALF TIME: Portsmouth RFC COLTS 0 – 33 Gosport & Fareham COLTS

The second half opened very much in the same vein as the first finished. Gosport started to close out the forward play and dictated the game pace. Ethan Carpenter (1) scored his first try of the game in the 52nd minute after another worked moved from the forwards. 0-38

A lengthy period of stoppage followed as a Portsmouth player suffered a suspected broken leg. The Gosport & Fareham COLTS family wish him a swift recovery and look forward to seeing him in the future back on the pitch.

Portsmouth gave Gosport a swift wake-up call after the long stoppage with a brilliant individual try from their winger on the 62nd minute, the try also being converted. 7-38

A rapid reply followed from Gosport with tries from Liam Capper and Ethan Carpenter within a minute of each other to bring the score to 7-50.

Stoppage time came with Gosport closing the game out in the forwards and great interchange work in the Centres. This saw Liam Capper taking a sublime line that once again cut the Portsmouth 3/4s in half to score. 7-55

The final try was from Ethan McQuaid (15). A backs move that saw Ethan run from Portsmouth’s 10metre line, leaving a trail pf players in his wake to score his first try as a COLT. Jordan Beilig resumed service to bring the final score to 7-62
