Gosport & Fareham Rugby Club kicked off their first pre-season match with a friendly against local rivals, Fareham Heathens RFC. For Head Coach, George Hillan, it was a chance for the senior squad to implement in a competitive match all the aspects from the pre season sessions.
As with any pre-season fixture it was an opportunity to get rid of the ring rustiness and there were many opportunities to work on from the game. Gosport finished 19-0 to the good with tries from Pollard, new boy Bell & Forfar.
Afterwards George was happy with the overall performance as Fareham had their chances, but dogged determined defence denied the hosts any score. George also commented that fitness had improved massively with the squad taking ownership over the summer break,
What it has done is throw up some selection headaches for the coaches, not a bad place to be, for the Hampshire Cup game away to Sandown & Shanklin RFC this coming Saturday.
