The Bournemouth and Poole Festival attracted teams from across the South as well as South Wales, London and Cambridgeshire. The Saxons found the standard high, but were able to compete on the first day of this two-day tournament. Lead by Chats Claridge with Matt Hutchinson and Ray Brooker refereeing the team achieved the following results:
Saxons 0 Dorchester 2
A hard fought game with Saxons unlucky with a couple of moves breaking down near the try line. Dorchester scored with their only two real excursions into our half. The players realised they were in for a tough competition for the day.
Saxons 5 Wimborne 3
A good victory with some great team tries scored coupled with some really great last ditch defence preventing Wimborne from scoring. The team gelled well and helped each other through the match.
Saxons 5 Ruislip 5
An amazing match with Saxons never leading in a high scoring game. At half time we were 3-1 down and with only a couple of minutes left we were 5-3 down. Saxons showed amazing resilience in recovering to gain a well deserved draw.
Saxons 2 Cwmgors 5
A tough last match against the boys from the valleys. With probably a bit of fatigue setting in Saxons were hit with some feroucious tackling (not all of it legal) which appeared to knock the confidence despite our best efforts. The team now realise the effort required to match the physicality of some teams.
Try scorers
Matthew T, Liam, Josh, Ben 2 tries each.
Molly, Jamie, Aden 1 try each.
All in all a great day with some good attacking shown by the team with a lot of tries scored. Despite a good training session last Sunday promoting last foot defence this was only done in patches which resulted in some tries conceded. Nice to be out in the sun at last. Coaches had a great time and Ray gave all the refs a brief on the rules to which we play.
Well done Saxons!
