It was impossible to pick a man of the match today as all of the boys played so well by picking the pack the coaches hope that the boys see that it is teamwork that wins games and not individuals. Each boy played their part in the win today.
It was great to see the ball being passed and players not feeling that they had to run with it but having the confidence that the support was there. Both wings were involved in phases of play, the pack worked together to push Fareham off the ball in rucks, mauls and don’t quote me but I think we won nearly 50% of the scrums against the head.
Tackling was excellent, the boys committed themselves to the tackle, they went in low released the tackled player and rolled away.
I believe that we only gave away 3 penalties in the game this is a fantastic improvement and shows that the boy’s knowledge of the game is improving.
I would like to thank the boys for the way they behaved off the pitch as well as on it. It was encouraging to see and hear players that were subs cheering their team on and I would especially like to thank Sam Burns and Joe Archer who on seeing how well the team was playing offered to stay off at half time as they didn’t wish to disrupt the flow. They did come on and both contributed towards the win. But I think it is important to acknowledge their team spirit.
We will be building on our success at Wednesday’s training session and hopefully we will see another great game of rugby against Portsmouth.
