Great to see nearly all of the 2015/16 Squad back for the first Coaching Session of the new season.
Also great to welcome 3 new players to the rugby experience and the Ravens Squad - Peter, Justin and Harry.
Head Coach Richard Daly emphasised that this season must be about getting the core skills right and playing with a higher intensity.
Bailey signed in for the season with a tremendous try saving tackle on Harry (R). Ed showed that his off season work on fitness has paid off as he made some impressive carries. Huw was tenacious as ever in the breakdowns and Olly looked sharp in the scrum half position.
Front row looked competitive with a number of players showing that they will be chasing for these crucial roles in the now 8 man pack in contested scrums. Flankers arrived and Fin, Ed and Joe were amongst those relishing this new position on the field.
In the backs Harry and Ethan began running the moves again with some success but a number of players were rusty and there were too many dropped balls. Our backs have got to be smarter this season in both defence and attack; watching some top class rugby would help. Bigger pitches and 15 players means that our game must be more expansive and we must exploit opportunities better. Wingers need to be alert to the kicking game. Most of all everyone must commit to the tackle and be part of the defensive line, there is now nowhere to hide from your responsibility to make the tackle and not create openings for the opposition.
Welcome to the 2016/17 season, first game 25th Sept at Brighton Blues; so 3 training and 2 Coaching sessions to go to be ready.
Let's go Ravens!
