In a field reminiscent of No Man's Land - cold, wet and very, very muddy - Gosport and Fareham met Fareham Heathens for the third time this season. Both teams had been affected by sickness and holidays just about managing to scrape together enough players for a match.
After a bit of pitch forking to try and get a bit of drainage going in the most boggy areas, we decided to go ahead with the match...our boys seem to thrive in these conditions
Harvey took on kicking duties and managed to overcome the severe lack of bounce present in the pitch. The scoring was opened after 3 minutes by Joe who was on the receiving end of a series of nicely timed passes before sidestepping his way over the line. This was followed just 5 minutes later By Ollie who picked the ball from the base of the scrum and made his way down the blind side virtually unchallenged.
Heathens pulled back an unconverted try in the 17th minute.
After half time the match was just settling down when Max intercepted a wayward Heathens pass, dodged a tackle and sprinted the remaining third of the pitch, just managing to stay ahead of the chasers outstretched fingers long enough to make it over the line for G&Fs third try.
Harry then took advantage of the work done by the forwards in securing the ball and made his way down the pitch, scoring the fourth in the 37th minute. He then added a second try just two minutes later. A Heathens kick to touch was sliced, straight into the hands of Ollie. The boys immediately attacked the gap in the Heathens line with the forwards quickly recycling the ball which made its way out to Harry once again.
To round it off, Harry added a personal third in the 45th minute. Some deft passing on the halfway line once again saw Harry with the chance to kick up a gear and sprint down the touchline.
Harvey did an excellent job securing all but one of the conversions, including a beautifully struck one from tight against the touchline.
