On a prefect winters morning for Rugby at the Hugin, Gosport's U14's faced the challenge of Havant in the quarter final of the cup. Havant started the game at a furious pace, their fast, organised backs breaking swiftly to score a try after 3 minutes smartly converted, then Gosport were caught under their posts , unable to clear the ball due to the pressure and Havant stole the ball to score again, duly converted.
The lads then started to gain some composure after the difficult opening, spending most of the first half in Havants half, the fierce mauling and tackling, notably from Noah and Callum, with the forwards creating pressure resulting in numerous penalties from Havant, too eager to claw the ball back. The pressure paid off when a quick tap and go penalty by Jaff allowed him to power over the try line for deserved reward for the team.
The athleticism of both teams was commendable as the tempo didn't subside in the second half, with Gosport matching Havant for much of the half. Three late tries somewhat flattered Havant, with the final score 31-5, however the lads should take much credit for the performance. Thank you also for the lads who turned up to support their team which is great to see and much appreciated.
