Eastleigh wore the beards today - 48-5 !

It was a day at the Hugin when the weight difference of the two packs meant we could have been up for a very tough ride; Eastleigh's height and size ( and beards) would have worried most sides. The watching parents and first aid team were nervously eyeing up Gosport's prodigy's in front of them wondering, if they would be nursing some painful young bones later that day! But from the kick off G & F took the ascendancy with a try by Jaff on 4 minutes after good work by Ben S. It was then one way traffic with the team exhibiting the fundamental's of strong rucking, moving the ball out quickly and drawing the man in front, setting up opportunity after opportunity.

On 7 minutes, some svelt moves from Chris C saw him hit the try line and cooly place the conversion over the posts. With the team firing on all fronts, a successful line out deep inside the opponents 22 lead to a huge drive from the forwards with Joe Carruthers scoring on 11 minutes. Two minutes later Ben S showed his talent with a twisting run and superb try , duly converted by Chris C, and a minute after that, after picking the ball up on the halfway line, Lego left Eastleigh's forward's in his wake and outpaced the chasing backs to score magnificently on the right touchline; 29-0 after 14 minutes!

Some splendidly aggressive work in the breakdown by Callum and Joe Grimm, lead to neat handwork, and Chris scored again on 17 minutes with a conversion to follow. After good work by Noah, on 23 minutes, Jaff took a pass on the wing and scored, diving over and placing the ball down under heavy pressure rounding off a superb first half.

Playing against a strengthening wind, the second half began much as the first, with Jaff's speed outpacing Eastleigh's defence , scoring under the posts, with Gareth converting easily. The Gosport team came under heavy pressure in the final quarter , with a host of substitutions coping admirably with a late onslaught from Eastleigh, who picked up a consolation try with 5 minutes remaining.

The final score of 48-5 reflected a convincing performance, with a huge team work ethic, tough tackling, intelligent play and pace and guile of which every member of the squad should be proud, and be able to take the confidence gained into next weeks match against Southampton.
