Gosport & Fareham under 14s continued their travelling ways this season, this time crossing the Hampshire border to the north, visiting Newbury Blues.
Our hosts treated us to a match using their 1st team pitch which has also seen action from many premiership teams so a great experience for the lads. Not used to the great facilities of more affluent clubs most of the travelling fans forgot to stay in the warm clubhouse & chose instead to use the stands to cheer the lads on.
The only negative aspect of the day was the result with Newbury finishing on the better end of a 17 - 5 scoreline despite Gosport ending with a frenzied rash of penalties ending in a disappointing fumble at the line.
Newbury deserved the win with the visitors not being able to adjust effectively enough to compensate for some obvious strengths in the Newbury game seeking out new opponents is a good way to expand on our learning journey & if teams welcome us with such strong, tough, clean games, it's something we'll do time & again. A great day out lads & loads of food for thought. Many thanks for Newbury for hosting us!
