What with the clocks going forward and the team having to travel by Ferry, Fast-Cat and then Train - it was a credit to the GFRFC U14 Tour Co-ordinator (Big Kev) that the team reached their away fixture on time and mustered.
Having been denied a match for a few weeks, Gosport & Fareham needed the challenge of a good run-out and Vectis certainly met the requirement. Vectis were very good all over the pitch - they were strong in the scrum, sharp in the loose, well drilled in the line-out and their tackling was faultless.
It looked like business as usual when Tom Batley powered over for the first try early on but Vectis were not behind for long and they levelled the scores with a fine try of their own. Play continued to be tight with Vectis having most of the possession and territory, and it was only the determined defence from Gos that the score remained level at the interval.
Gos started the second half much more brightly with Sean Pitt showing good form and it was Lewis Evans, once again showing his lightning speed, who took the visitors into the lead. Not long after, Gos increased their lead with a text-book move from the line-out - which was very pleasing for the coaching staff as the move was practised shortly before the game - Sam Yeardley scoring the try to complete another fine individual performance.
However, Vectis fought back and advanced on the Gos try line. A second try was scored with only five minutes left and yet again the Gos defence was tested as Vectis continued to attack. But Gos held firm with Craig Taylor leading from the front and the match was won.
