Gos overcame a very good Tottonians side in this thrilling fixture where the result could easily have gone the other way. Indeed, although Gos opened the scoring from a Tom Batley try, it was Tottonians who performed much better in the first half. They were sharper, stronger and their passing was excellent. Gos were finding it hard in the scrum and equally difficult in the line-out and only a quite brilliant solo effort by Tom Rimmer just before the break kept the score to a reasonable 17-14 at half time. It could have been a lot worse such was Tottonians superiority.
In the second half the home side soon touched down again increasing their lead and it certainly looked ominous for Gosport & Fareham. However, Gos continued to fight and battle and their determination eventually paid off with Lewis Evans once again displaying his splendid form this season with his exciting running by scoring two tries giving Gos a slender lead 26-24 going into the final minutes of the game.
Tottonians came back again and forced over a try in the corner which looked to everyone as being the winning play. But, from the restart Tom Batley emerged on his own from midfield and broke the line to score an exciting and thrilling victory for the Gos. Incredibly, there was still time for Tottonians to restart and they mounted a last ditch offence on the Gos line but the defence held firm with Craig Taylor leading from the front.
