3 sessions of 20 minutes and Ravens closed out the first session 14 - 0 up. Tries by Ed Bell and Olly Webb both converted by Aidan Jarvis. It was clear that Ravens were missing their three centres but Mark Hearn stepped up to the mark and played some great rugby.
2nd session poor decision making saw Ravens let Eastleigh know the game wasn't over and they scored two tries 14-10 end of session.
Third session was a battle and again wrong options and lack of protection for the ball in possession saw Ravens fail to close out the game. Ball at the feet in rucks was lost by nobody looking down. Long speculative miss passes that should have gone short to the big runner and retained possession.
Ravens conspired to bring about a bitter defeat for themselves through poor leadership and even poorer decision making. 1 minute to go they are awarded a penalty 5 m from Eastleigh try line with score at 14-10 to them. Choices:
1. Tap and pass to a forward to crash over.
2. Scrum, retain possession, use up time and off of a solid scrum pick and go for the line.
3. Kick to lineout to use up time, win ball from put in to uncontested lineout and have a last effort at the line .....
No they decide to take a quick tap and throw a long pass 5m further back to a weak back line that gets stopped, turned over and never get back in place to defend.
Eastleigh who never gave up all day then go length of the pitch to win game on final whistle.
Huw Bones was awarded man of the match by Eastleigh for his efforts up front.
