After a run of disappointing results, a home win was the outcome at the Hugin. The coaches have had to work hard with a remodeled team, and today it looked as if the belief and work rate were back in a vengeance.
The first half was dominated by G & F, only the seagulls , enjoying the puddles inside the Gosport half provided any action. The territorial dominance climaxed in powerful try by Jay after heavy forward pressure and was cooly converted by Chris. it was the best half of rugby played this season by the team, with supporting runners, good rucking , and strong tackling. Above all though, it seemed that the communication, determination and commitment was back led , in particular by a very vocal Lego.
The second half was less one sided, with Farnborough, who had previously beaten Petersfield well, pushing G & F back, and a troubling run of infringements due to the mounting pressure allowed Farnborough to score two tries leaving it at 7-10 with four minutes to go. Notable during this defensive period though, was an extraordinarily powerful tackle by Finn to stop an attack in its tracks, and a surging run from Tom Cohen, who broke through 5 tackles in the middle of the park. However, G & F were not prepared to give in, and a frantic spell of drives towards the try line, left space for Harrison Fry to fly in and score, and when converted by Gareth, the score ended 14-10, a result which the boys deserved, and allows the coaches and watching parents to believe that the rebuilt team could be gelling and able to compete with the best again .
