1st XV away vs KCS Old Boys; 2nd XV away vs Basingstoke

A huge challenge for Gosport and Fareham rugby this weekend when the 1s travel to the team unbeaten at the top of the table, KCS Old Boys.

There will be a different look to the squad on Saturday due to injuries and non-availability, there are six unavailable due to injuries, with James Wales being out for around 9 months after breaking his leg and requiring surgery to allow the bone to repair and others having other commitments preventing their availability for selection.

This will challenge the squad as there will be a number of new partnerships which will need to gel quickly and some players having to play in a position they may not normally find themselves playing.

After a mid-season review the coaching staff and players have looked to adapt the way they play with the aim to take every available point to them. Following the disappointment of last weeks result, the club have only looked forward as we cannot change the past - we can only mould the future. Whilst there were areas we have looked to develop we have concentrated on implementing the new structure and processes for which everyone is aligned.

Following the training sessions and some new faces being introduced the team have shown a new focus and direction which will allow us to be competitive against what is anticipated to be a hard game. At Gosport Park we played very well and put up a strong performance against KCS and unfortunately conceded 2 late tries against them on a cold, wet windy Saturday afternoon. The squad has developed well since this fixture and will approach the game with no fear of the opposition and a clear direction as to how to play the game and we know there will be periods of the game when things go wrong, but we will come together to continue the battle and take the fight to the opposition. This weekend does see the return of some regulars back to the 1s after a week away.

The 2s face just as difficult an afternoon when they travel to top of their league, Basingstoke. This will be a new experience for some of the players as they will be playing under flood lights for the very first time and for others it will be their first exposure to senior rugby. They have trained well with the 1s and are ready for the challenge which lies ahead.
